The Emotional Arcs That Dealt With Breakthrough Attempts

Ronnie, played by Tiger Shroff, displays great physicality as he embodies a sculpted martial artist and dancer. Shroff certainly continues to fulfill these expectations in Baaghi 3. Baaghi 3, however, requires Ronnie to emotionally be torn between love and duty to his brother. Unfortunately, Tiger’s effort is overshadowed by the lackluster script, as most of his time is spent in fight sequences.

In the film, Riteish Deshmukh, a usually comedic actor, perhaps takes the most baffling role as Vikram, a submissive and cowardly police officer. Though his character does offer some layers to the story, he is often underdeveloped, serving as a plot tool to fuel Ronnie’s anger.

Aside from providing an abundance of spunky energy in her role as Siya, Ronnie’s love interest, Shraddha Kapoor does not seem to offer much. Particularly, after the action moves to the foreign location, the character seemingly disappears. While the Tiger and Shraddha’s chemistry is lively, the film’s infatuation with grand action set pieces ultimately eclipses it.

What Worked and What Fell Apart

Visually, Baaghi 3 was an expenditures bulging with glory. Tank chases, helicopter battles, and hand-to hand combat take place on dusty, war-torn surfaces. The action is immense. If one is a fan of Tiger’s stunts, the film is a real delight. For mainstream Bollywood, the attempt at creating international action war zones of this magnitude, was a first. That alone was enough for the audience to clap and cheer in the cinema.

After seeing the action, the audience was confused on the story line. The story is very much the opposite. The action was tremendous, the pacing was cartoonish, and the conflict was scarcely emotional. Critics seemed to think he was a one man army, rather then seeing the bond he had with Vikram or the one with Siya. The struggle had little to no action.

The film’s soundtrack was very nostalgic. It depended on remixes too much to the point where the albums lacked uniqueness.

The Emotional Arcs That Tried to Break Through

The Unacknowledged Emotional Arcs Tiger Shroff as Ronnie is all brute strength and physical prowess. He has crafted his persona around athletic and martial arts as well as dance and in Baaghi 3, he certainly delivers in that area. He is also supposed to emotionally be torn between a sense of duty to his brother and love for him. And while Tiger tries, the essence of the character is lost in the script as he has little room to maneuver beyond bouts. Riteish Deshmukh as Vikram is single handedly the most surprising casting of the film. Mostly known for his comedic performances, he is now an emotionally delicate and timid cop. Through his character, he adds some depth to the film, however he is constantly under developed and simply serves as the

Shraddha Kapoor as Siya fulfills the expectations as Ronnie’s love interest, projecting some lively energy, but, for the most part, has little to no purpose after the film goes international. The chemistry between the two is very engaging and lively, however, it pales in comparison to the sheer volume of spectacles the film tries to achieve.

What Went Right and What Went Wrong.

When it comes to visuals, the film spares no expense. The action is massive in scale—tank chases, helicopter battles, and even hand-to-hand combat over dusty, war-torn terrain. For fans, Tiger is a movie star whose every film is a buffet. No one in Bollywood has attempted to create a war zone action scene of this scale and in a mainstream franchise. No one has tried. Just this ambition was enough to have audiences cheering in the theaters.

Still, what structured the spectacle didn’t necessarily translate well into the story. The film’s pacing was inconsistent, and the fights strayed into the realm of the absurd. It has been observed by critics what worked as a one-man army was not Tiger, but the action. The emotional tension—be it the bond between Ronnie and Vikram, or Ronnie’s romance with Siya— was a different story.

The film’s soundtrack was heavy with remixes. While “Dus Bahane 2.0” was able to stir some nostalgia, the general feeling was that the album was far too reliant on borrowing from the past.

The Performers Outside the Periphery

Shroff was undoubtedly at the zenith of his career and the center of attention after the release of the film Baaghi 3 in the month of March in the year of 2020. After carving his place in the industry, which was filled with action-packed role and the various concrete assumptions made of him, Shroff was the epitome of a young, charismatic actor in the industry. Noticing him during action scenes, he was expected to perform like a superhero. The film showcased his skills and was a brand builder for him, but did raise a couple of questions regarding typecasting. The audience began to speculate whether Shroff would do anything other than action scenes.

In the earlier Baaghi of 2016, Kapoor was featured in alongside Shroff and also did not have the opportunity to showcase fully what she is able to do. Rather, she was able to strategically position herself in commercial projects. With him judging the film, it was a risk and a change to see him in a serious role with no comic relief. The audience received the character and his performance well, but the script was not in his favor. While he was able to showcase his skills, it did not allow him to fully showcase what he is capable of.

The shadow of reality on the film’s fate.

The film’s greatest challenge was not of the critics, but of the time. On March 6, 2020, Baaghi 3 was released and within no time the COVID-19 Pandemic hit India and the world. Even before the film could be fully showcased in theaters the COVID-19 Pandemic and the accompanying nation-wide lockdown brought India’s cinema theaters to a grinding halt. As far as Baaghi 3 was concerned, the box office collectible was around 17.5 crore which was strong but ever since the theaters went dark, Baaghi 3’s box office collections saw a steep downfall. Having spent considerable time on the film, the fans and trade analysts, to say the least, were quite reserved in their praise and as such began to wonder what the film could have done under better circumstances.

The fans were unaware of the controversy which hovered behind the making of the film. Insiders will talk about the set being a place where malfunction could be avoided only due to the presence of the core set of maneuvers of the movie. We have it on record that the only way to get around not using body doubles would be to endure injuries and in such way purportedly, Tiger trained and performed the illusions.

We do have the criticism of using too many international action films. In many people’s opinions, it reduced distinctiveness of the brand.
